Vegetable oils and essential oils are sometimes confused in aromatherapy use. Both types of oils are natural oils, and both have therapeutic properties. But they compose in different ways.

  1. Fascinating article, have a heard a lot about essential oils but never knew they are used in anti-aging products, always thought they were used only for for aromatherapy purposes. Personally, I don’t like massaging any kind of oil on my face, I used to before, but it always felt like it my skin never absorbed it properly, its why I only use lotion now.

You are right.  Everyone has his own preference.Many vegetable-based oils—avocado, jojoba, and almond, for example—mimic the natural lipids found in our skin, which is ideal for a couple reasons. After putting our bodies through the early rigours of our young lives it is always in hindsight when we realise we have taken our bodies for granted.   3. Well I’ve just turned 40 and am looking for some ways to regain or keep my skin youthful. Bit of both really. I like using coconut oil and I do know about some of the benefits of those oils. I really like the sounds of frankincense oil. It seems really quite versatile. Can you recommend any good brands for those oils? And any coconut oil will do? I’ve got an organic brand, but I’m guessing there are quite some differences as well…

    I do make a point of looking for rose geranium and Ylang Ylang whenever I am at the health food store, but they always seem to be sold out. Can you recommend a reputable manufacturer that I can order from online? Thank you in advance.

  6. I didn’t know there were synthetic oils. That’s a little disheartening. I will be paying better attention because I run them in the diffuser quite a bit! I think I’d like to try Black Pepper (and hurrah for assisting with wrinkles too, big benefit). 🙂

Natural oils (because they do not contain any added fillers or chemicals) absorb easily into the skin. They protecting the skin’s lipid barrier and preventing moisture from evaporating out of the skin.
