The Secret To Look Younger By Applying Intermittent Fasting

Many people go to the beauty salon or a plastic surgeon to look attractive and have a younger appearance. They don’t mind to fetch a lot of money in order to get rid of wrinkles on their face. Exercising helps to look young and so does sleeping. Yet getting old is a natural law that must be experienced.  But do you know that intermittent fasting makes you look younger?

Actually, for those who want to stay young, no need to spend too much money on beauty services or expensive beauty products. Simply by applying intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is a term for a diet that cycles between a period of fasting and nonfasting.

What happens to our body when we apply intermittent fasting?

Fasting will reduce or temporarily stop physiological processes or metabolism in our body, especially in the digestive tract. Termination of the metabolic process brings four sets of processes that have a major impact on health.

  1. Limiting the amount of food that enters the digestive tract.
  2. Lowering the intensity of the digestive system.
  3. With the decrease in the intensity of the work, the presence of toxins from the body, both endotoxins (toxins from the body itself) and exotoxins (toxins from outside the body) also decrease.
  4. The reduction of ingredients that must be digested will also make our bodies not force themselves to release hormones and digestive enzymes on a large scale.

Imagine otherwise if we do not fast? To be sure all foods that enter the body must be digested. Inevitably, we will force our digestive organs to work harder.

Fasting is powerful in protecting the cell wall. Cell walls can be maintained because free radicals are absent or reduced by fasting. So intermittent will slow down aging. Intermittent fasting makes you look younger

Already a common understanding among experts, so-called youth is basically an inhibited process of premature aging. Our body starts to age as early as the age of 25 even we do not feel it.

What Is The Scientific Or Evidence-Based That Intermittent Fasting Makes You Look Younger?

Among some of the most famous theories of aging is the free radical theory that emerged in the 1950s. The free radical theory of aging states that organism age because cells accumulate free radical damage over time. A free radical is any atom or molecule that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell.

The free radical theory reads, “If our bodies have many free radicals, then free radicals will damage the cell wall, destruction of the cell wall will accelerate aging.”

Fasting is powerful in protecting the cell wall. Cell walls can be maintained because free radicals are absent or reduced by fasting. So intermittent will slow down aging.

Scientists have examined the way fasting affects cellular and mitochondrial function and longevity. They have found the cells in our body react to fasting in much the same way as they do to exercise. When the cells under stress – exercise or fasting – the reaction creates changes at the cellular level that helps extend our lifespan.

Before reading more about the benefits of intermittent fasting, let us watch the video below:

Here are many benefits of intermittent fasting for health:

Intermittent fasting changes the function of cells, genes, and hormones. Intermittent fasting makes you look younger

1. Intermittent fasting changes the function of cells, genes, and hormones

Insulin levels in blood drop significantly, which facilitates fat burning.

– Growth hormone level in the blood may increase as much as 5-fold, facilitates fat burning and muscle gain.

The body induces cellular repair process, such as removing waste material from cells.

– There are beneficial changes in several genes and molecules related to longevity and protection against diseases.

2. Intermittent fasting can help us lose weight and belly fat so that our appearance look better overall

It can happen because intermittent fasting boosts our metabolic rate (increases calories out) and reduces calories in. Short-term fasting actually increases our metabolic rate by 3.6 – 14 %. It can reduce 4 – 7 %  waist circumference of people applying it.

Lots of belly fat in the abdominal cavity can cause diseases. Fasting provokes the secretion of human growth hormone (HGH), which is a fat-burning hormone.  HGH plays an important role in muscle building.

Fasting increases catecholamines (a neurotransmitter that sends impulses through the nerve synapses to the organs, telling them what to do) which allow stored fat to be burned for fuel. Synapse is a structure that permits a nerve cell to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron.

Fasting is powerful in protecting the cell wall. Cell walls can be maintained because free radicals are absent or reduced by fasting. So intermittent will slow down aging.

3.  Intermittent fasting reduces sugar levels in the blood, lowering our risk of type 2 diabetes

In human studies on intermittent fasting, blood sugar has been reduced by 3 – 6 %, while insulin has been reduced by 20 – 31%.

4. Intermittent fasting can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in our body

Oxidative stress is one of the steps towards aging and many chronic diseases.  Several studies show that intermittent fasting may enhance the body’s resistance to oxidative stress. Also, studies show that intermittent fasting can help fight inflammation.

Inflammation is part of the complex biological response of body tissues to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. It is a protective response involving immune cells, blood vessels, and molecular mediators.

The function of inflammation is to eliminate the initial cause of cell injury, clear out necrotic cells and tissue damaged from the original insult and the inflammatory process, and to initiate tissue repair.

5. Intermittent fasting is good for heart health (heart disease is the world’s biggest killer)

Intermittent fasting has been shown to improve blood pressure, total and LDL cholesterol, blood triglycerides, inflammatory markers and blood sugar levels.

6.  Intermittent fasting induces various cellular repair processes

When we fast, the cells in the body initiate an “AUTOPHAGY“, a cellular “waste removal” process.

7. Intermittent fasting may help heal cancer

Fasting can help our body rid itself of diseases. Major studies in 1945 showed that intermittent fasting not only prolonged life but also reduced the prevalence of breast cancer tumors in rats. Another study in 2009 proved that fasting can even reduce the side effects of high dose chemotherapy.

When fasting, our body’s healthy cells were in hibernation mode. The cancer cells tried to find other ways to divide and spread without much success. Then the cancer cells committing cellular suicide.

8. Intermittent fasting is good for our brain

Several studies in rats have shown that intermittent fasting may increase the growth of new nerve cells, which should have benefits for brain function. Too many calories are not good for our waistline. They are not good for our brain either.

Cutting our energy intake by fasting several days a week help our brain ward off neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s (the world’s most common neurodegenerative disease). At the same time, it improves the memory and mood.

There is no cure available for Alzheimer’s yet, so preventing it is critical. Fasting is a challenge to our brain. The brain reacts by activating adaptive stress responses that help it cope with diseases.

9. Intermittent fasting may extend our lifespan, helping us live longer

Studies in the rat have shown rats that fasted every other day lived 83 % longer than rats that didn’t fast. Intermittent fasting study revealed that in people who fast, there will be a significant reduction of malondialdehyde ( MDA)  or free radicals by 90%.

Together with it, fasting increases antioxidant production by up to 15%. Free radicals are pruned. On the other hand, free enemy radicals or antioxidants improved. So we need not wonder why fasting diligently makes us look younger.

10. Intermittent fastings help treat allergies and sensitivities

There is extensive evidence to prove that fasting at least one day of the month can dramatically improve our immune system. It increases white blood cell count. Intermittent fasting also improves our digestive health.

  1. Everyone I know who’s been using intermittent fasting has benefited from it. What I’m interested in most however, is autophagy, and from what I’ve read about it, fasting needs to exceed 24 hours for autophagy to kick in.

Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can make fasting much harder because food and drink are powerful mood modifiers.

  2. I think Melanie the Warrior Fast. Seems I usually only eat one meal a day anyhow. Though I drink liquids. I can say when I limit myself to fresh vegetables and fruits. Maybe some nuts for protein (not many). I feel amazing! I will need to try the exact fast to see though how it works. Ive heard of the water, and juice fasts. I am a believer in flushing toxins out. Thank you for such an informative article along with the numerous fasts!

  3. Hello Melan I really like this article. Great work and I am surprised how fasting can help so much and help overcome so many problems as I always thought fasting is not good. I have always been afraid to fast as I like to eat but your article convinces me to try it. I like that it is secret to looking young and ofcourse we share similar interests on this topic, as I was also writing an article on looking young.
However I was a bit confused about what is intermittent fasting, you mentioned it is the period between fasting and non-fasting but its not clear, also the link you added for wikepedia to explain it, it says could not find any such terms when i clicked on the link.
Overall its a wonderful and helpful article. Thanks for sharing and all the best.

    Best Regards

  4. You know, i have been thinking about doing this for awhile now and have even heard a lot of good things about doing it. this and cold showers. I have kinda got the cold showers thing down but have not done this yet. I don’t think I like being hungry. Or I fear being hungry…either way. I do believe you have me sold on this.

thank you for your post. very enlightening.

    • Ha …ha…ha…You are very honest. I know this is an uninteresting article for people who fond of eating. But consider the benefits to live longer to try at our capability. Thank you for leaving the comment.

  6. Fascinating topic; there are so many different opinions, that it is difficult to find the one which works best, I have tried most of the methods you list and am currently using the 16 hour fasting each day model. Along with a sensible diet, it seems to work well, but not that easy to actually reduce weight.

  7. Wow, I didn’t realize there are so many ways to fast intermittently. This is great information particularly providing the “Best For” information of each type. I like having the various options to try to see which one I will be able to stick to. There are so many benefits for trying one as you pointed out in your post. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Hi Melani and thank you for sharing the art of fasting! Intermittent fasting sounds like it has benefits. I’ve always been curious about fasting in general, but have not yet tried. I’ve seen a short documentary on doing a water fast. Any insight you can share on that? Also, when doing a fast, are you allowed coffee and water, but nothing else? Again, I’ve never practiced fasting so I was curious. Thanks in advance Melani.

    • I’ve ever practiced by not having my lunch 3 times a week. I hope it can reduce the belly fat and increase my alertness. I think we should try based on our necessity and capability. Thank you for the comment.
